Course Description: South Carolina now has the 10th highest adult obesity rate in the nation, according to “The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America”. This course will address obesity screening and management and include interventions for the prevention of obesity.

Target Audience: Licensed nurses, social workers, dieticians and any other interested healthcare professional

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • discuss guidelines for obesity screening.
  • identify effective interventions for the prevention of obesity.
  • describe strategies for implementing evidence-based approaches for weight loss into primary care.

Length of Course: 120 minutes

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses:  Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 2.0 contact hours.

Social work hours (non): This program has been approved for 2.0 clock hours of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 2.0 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

 Dietitians:  2.0 hours of CPE for registered dietitians.
