Course Description: This course will provide participants with skills and knowledge to assist with safe patient handling and movement in the work environment.

Target Audience: All Healthcare Professionals

Length of Course: 1 hour

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Discuss 3 risk factors for lumbar injury and 1 solution for reduction of the risk

2. Discuss “Best Practices” of Algorithms based on Patient Assessment and Care Plan for safe patient handling and movement

3. List at least 3 mechanical tools that can be used to assist with patient movement

4. Discuss proper body mechanics for computer or desk work and ADL’s

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1 contact hour.

Dieticians: 1 contact hour of CPE for registered dieticians.

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1 clock hour will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Upstate AHEC Credit: This educational offering provides 0.1 CEUs (1 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
