Course Description: This course will discuss fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in relation to the diagnosis, symptoms, and aggregating factors related to these disorders. The focus will be on therapy interventions to help reduce pain, fatigue, hypersensitivity, and stress intolerance and how to progress and transition the patient to increase strength, ROM, and muscle strength/flexibility without increasing pain and ultimately making them pain free. In addition, the program emphasizes how patients can take charge of their health.



Instructor: Hima Dalal, OTR/L, Reiki Master, Fibromyalgia Specialist, Energy Medicine Practitioner is President of Vital Energy Therapy. She is a board certified Occupational Therapist with 35 years experience in outpatient and hospital therapy.

Target Audience: RN, OT, Social Workers and other interested healthcare providers

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Define fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
2. Explain the diagnosis and symptoms.
3. List the aggravating factors.
4. Discuss therapy interventions that help reduce pain, fatigue, hypersensitivity, and stress intolerance.
5. Identify how patients can take charge of their health.
6. Discuss how to progress the patient and transition the patient to increase strength, ROM and muscle strength/flexibility without increasing pain and ultimately making them pain free.

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 3.0 contact hours.

Social Workers: This program has been approved for 3.0 clock hour of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Massage Therapists: This program has been approved for 3.0 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for Massage Therapy. SC State Provider Number is 2. Expires 6/30/2018.
