Course Description: This course will describe and demonstrate the effects of using aromatherapy with cancer patients.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe and demonstrate the effects of using aromatherapy with cancer patients and how to select the correct essential oils.
2. Describe when the use of essential oils is contraindicated as treatment of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
3. Describe the efficiency of using essential oils in massage and diffusion for various issues of cancer patients both in and post treatment.
4. Describe the resources for information about essential oils and their safe use.

Length of Course: 45 minutes

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 0.75 contact hour.

Massage Therapists: This program has been approved for 0.9 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for Massage Therapy. SC State Provider Number is 2.

Course Description: This course will review aromatherapy definitions and application methods, discuss research on the use of essential oils to relieve post-operative pain the side effects of cancer treatment. The Properties of 7 basic essences will be discussed and contraindications of essential oils during cancer treatment will be reviewed.

Course Description:  Opioid abuse and misuse is a major public health concern.  This program defines pain as a disorder and a public health concern.  The presenter will review non-pharmacological empirically supported approaches to pain treatment.

•Discuss the components of pain.
•Identify the prevalence of pain and pain as a public health concern.
