 Course Description: This course will provide participants with an overview of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and common interventions for pathophysiological disorders of the respiratory system and common medications to treat those disorders.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • discuss anatomical and physiological functions of the respiratory system. 
  • discuss pathophysiological processes of the respiratory system.
  • discuss common interventions for pathophysiological processed identified.
  • list medications for common disorders of the respiratory system.
  • list side effects and/or adverse reactions of the medications.
  • discuss interventions the healthcare provider must be aware of when caring for patients taking these medications.

Length of Course: 75 minutes


Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.25 contact hour/0.75 pharmacology hour

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1.25  clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Others: This educational offering provides 0.125 CEUs (1.25 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
