Course Description: This course will provide the counselor with useful when working with the college population.  It will discuss how to assist the high school student to college and how to be successful in the first year of college.  The presenter will discuss techniques and strategies used by careers counseling.

Instructor: Camilla Bravo, PhD, LPC-S, Master Business and Life Coach, Founder of the Bravo Institute

Target Audience: Licensed professional counselors, social workers and any other interested healthcare professional

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify at least 3 new stressors associated with the transition to college
  • List at least 5 techniques/strategies used by career counselors
  • Discuss at least 3 reasons why students fail in the first year of college
  • Discuss the importance of making new connections
  • List at least 3 resources shown to be useful when working with the college population

Length of Course: 60 minutes

Credit Statements:

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists:  This program has been approved for 1.0 hour of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Social Workers (non-social work credit): This program has been approved for 1.0 clock hour of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Others:  This program is approved for 0.1 CEUs (1.0 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
