Course Description: This course is a review of statistics, diagnosis and temperament related to those with eating disorders.  The presenter will discuss the interplay of genes and environment and warning signs of eating disorders.  The differences between obesity and binge eating disorder will be covered. The presenter will discuss the recovery process of patients with various eating disorders.  In addition, insurance and prevention will be covered.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the temperament of an individual predisposed to develop an eating disorder.
  • Identify the differences between obesity and binge eating disorder.
  • Identify warning signs of an eating disorder.

Length of Course: 1 hour 40 minutes

Credit Statements:

Social Workers:  This program has been approved for 1.6 clock hours of social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists:  This program has been approved for 1.6  hour of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Licensed Nurses:  Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.6 contact hours.

Dietitians:  1.6 hour of CPE for registered dietitians.

Others: This educational offering provides 0.16 CEUs (1.6 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
