Course Description: This course will discuss the best methods to counsel those impacted by AIDS.

Target Audience: Licensed professional counselors, social workers, nurses and any other interested healthcare professional

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • List at least two ways HIV is transmitted
  • List and discuss at least two methods/best practices in training
  • List at least two ways countertransference can manifest itself
  • List at least four steps in the guidelines to decrease cultural clashes
  • List and discuss the five steps in the LEARN model
  • List and discuss the five stages listed in the Kubler-Ross model of grief

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists:  This program has been approved for 1.25 hour of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Social Work: This program has been approved for 1.25 clock hour of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.
