Course Description: This course will provide information about SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) a standardized tool that healthcare professionals use for hand-off communication to meet JCAHO’s National Patient Safety Goal.

Target Audience: Licensed Nurses

Learning Objectives: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe all four steps of the SBAR process.
  • Identify the challenges of healthcare communication.
  • Recall possible root causes of miscommunication in healthcare.
  • Discuss reasons for intentionally improving healthcare communication.
  • Recognize the use of each of the four steps in the SBAR model.
