Course Description: The purpose of this course is to define asthma, classify asthma and recognize a need for consistent educational messages for patients. A discussion on the differences between controller and quick relief medications will be included.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

• Define Asthma.
• Classify Asthma severity based on nationally recognized guidelines.
• Classify asthma control based on nationally recognized guidelines.
• Recognize a need for consistent educational messages for patients.
• Describe the differences between controller and quick-relief medications.

Length of Course: 90 minutes

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.5 contact hours.

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1.5 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.
