Course Description: To provide information on patient safety as it pertains to a quality standpoint in an inpatient healthcare setting.

Target Audience: All Healthcare providers

Presentation 1: The Burning Platform (2 hour presentation)
Learning Outcomes: List reasons patient safety has become a burning platform in healthcare, state the characteristics of a successful "lean" culture, and state common barriers to a safe environment.

Presentation 2: Teamwork Makieth Dream Work (2 hour presentation)
Learning Outcomes: List 3 reasons why collaboration is important, list 3 barriers to collaboration, and list 3 communication tools to improve nurse-physician collaboration.

Presentation 3: New Frontiers in Ambulatory Care (2 hour presentation)
Learning Outcomes: Discuss characteristics of physician engagement, list opportunities for quality lean in ambulatory care, and explore quality opportunities found in the ambulatory care setting.

Presentation 4: Circle of Caring (2 hour presentation)
Learning Outcomes: List the steps in creating an attitude of "It's all about the patient" and examine the outcomes when resistance to change continues.

Length of Course: 8 hours

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This continuing education activity is approved for 8.0 contact hours for licensed nurses.

Social Workers: This program has been approved for 8.0 clock hours of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Licensed Professional Counselors: This program has been approved for 8.0 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Dietitians: 8.0 hours of CPE for registered dietitians

Respiratory Care Professionals: 8.0 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Others: This educational offering provides 0.80CEUs (8.0 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
