Course Description: This course will provide healthcare workers with critical thinking skills needed to make healthcare decisions that impact patient care.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

Define critical thinking.
1. List the characteristics of critical thinking.
2. Compare and contrast the difference in the terms: critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgment.
3. Describe how critical thinking is contextual.
4. Compare how critical thinking is outside the clinical setting versus inside the clinical setting.
5. Contrast the nursing process and critical thinking.
6. Associate key learning and workplace skills.
7. List the pitfalls in critical thinking.
8. Summarize the key points and put it all together.

Length of Course: 60 minutes

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This continuing education activity is approved for 1.0 contact hour for licensed nurses.

Social Workers: This program has been approved for 1.0 clock hour of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 1.0 hour of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Dietitians: 1.0 hour of CPE for registered dietitians

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1.0 clock hour will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.
