Course Description: The purpose of the activity is to discuss the role of neurotransmitters in ADD and Addiction and the symptomatic nature of ADD and the additional roadblocks it presents to recovery. A discussion about how to use the natural gifts and resources that come with ADD, and which strategies work most effectively with this population will also be used during the presentation.

Target Audience: Licensed Nurses, Licensed Social Workers and other interested healthcare workers

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
• identify the common biological factors that contribute to both ADD and Addiction.
• identify at least roadblocks to recovery that are common for those with addictive disease and ADD.
• describe at least 2 strategies for working with those dually diagnosed with Add and Addictive disease.

Length of Course: 1.5 hour

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.5 contact hours.

Social Workers: This program has been approved by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners for 1.5 clock hours of non-social work continuing education.

Other: This educational offering provides 0.15 CEUs (1.5 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
