Course Description: This course will provide participants with information about child sexual abuse: statistics, who the offenders are, who mandated reporters are, when to report, how to protect children and red flag signals.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

Identify statistics related to child sexual abuse.
Discuss why a child may not disclose or recant a disclosure.
Identify who the offenders are.
List mandated reporters in SC.
Identify when to report child sexual abuse.
Identify why people do not report.
Identify ways to help protect children.
Identify flag signals of child sexual abuse.

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 0.5 contact hour.

Dieticians: 0.5 hours of CPE for registered dieticians.

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 0.5 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Social Workers (non-social work hours): This program has been approved by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners for 0.5 clock hours of non-social work continuing education.

Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 0.5 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

Other: This educational offering provides 0.5 CEUs (0.5 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
