Course Description: This course will provide participants with skills to communicate with patients in the healthcare environment.

Target Audience: All Healthcare Professionals

Length of Course: 30 minutes

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Recognize communication barriers.
2. Describe active listening techniques.
3. Identify when you are in a power struggle.
4. Describe interventions to increase communication.

Credit Statements:

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 0.5 contact hour.

Dieticians: 0.5 contact hour of CPE for registered dieticians.

Respiratory Care Practitioners: 0.5 clock hour will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Massage Therapists: This program has been approved for 0.6 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for Massage Therapy. SC State Provider Number is 2 Expires 6/30/2020.

Other: This educational offering provides 0.05 CEUs (0.5 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
