Course Description: This course is intended to increase the participant's knowledge of federal and state laws or regulations associated with controlled substances and recognize the appropriate use with the APN practice and to demonstrate knowledge of common pharmacologic categories of analgesics.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
Distinguish the federal and state laws and/or regulations associated with the prescription of controlled substances and recognize appropriate use within APN
Demonstrate knowledge of common pharmacologic categories of analgesics and the potential adverse effects for these drugs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the use of analgesics in pain management, including requirements for documentation.
Length of Course: 120 minutes
Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 2.0 contact hours and 2.0 pharmacology hours.
Other: This educational offering provides 0.20 CEUs (2.0 clock hour) by Upstate AHEC and meets SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
